Rum Island Spring and Park

1447 Southwest Rum Island Terrace, Fort White, FL, 32038

Rum Island’s exotic, romantic name comes from illicit moonshine stills hidden out here during the early 1900s. The second magnitude spring forms a 200-meter swimming hole just north of Rum Island itself, filled with crystal clear water, perfect for swimming, snorkeling and relaxing. The County Park is a little slice of North Florida perfection, with picnic tables under the shade of trees and loads of space to relax by the Santa Fe River.

Hours: Open daily from 8:00 AM until sundown.

Fees: $5 per vehicle

The spring and swimming hole are relatively unmanaged, providing a delightfully natural atmosphere. The water flows out of a pleasantly mysterious cavern in the shape of a flying saucer, and an eroded 3-foot bank provides easy entry into the shallower parts of the pool.
