The Visit Florida team recently spent time in Columbia County meeting and capturing many of our wonderful tourism partners. Chosen as the first county of its size to participate in the complimentary content series, we are honored and delighted to showcase our destination and all that it has to offer. A 60-second video was produced to demonstrate just a sample of what visitors could do while visiting our county. This video will be shared by Visit Florida on their digital channels and through public relations efforts, amplifying the Lake City, Florida’s Springlands brand and its partners.

MUST-DO ACTIVITIES
1. Head to Ichetucknee Springs State Park for a fun-filled day exploring the eight major crystal clear springs that join together to make up the six-mile Ichetucknee River. You can choose from several different options to explore this refreshing oasis, including swimming, tubing, paddling, or scuba diving. Paddling Adventures, located at the south entrance, offers tube, canoe, kayak, and stand-up paddleboard rentals, allowing you to experience the splendor of nature and come face-to-face with birds, manatees, and other local wildlife.
2. Lake City is steeped in history and boasts a vibrant cultural scene. Explore the town’s charming downtown area, lined with historic buildings and unique boutiques. Visit the Lake City-Columbia County Historical Museum to delve into the region’s past and learn about its heritage.
3. Also centrally located in Columbia County are the 1,000 acres of greenland and wet space that make up Alligator Lake Park. Here, visitors will find a taste of unspoiled, untamed Florida with a beautiful waterfront spot in the underappreciated metropolis of Lake City. A variety of fish can be found in the lake for fishing, including bream/bluegill, redear sunfish, catfish, crappie, and largemouth bass. the park also offers 12 miles of hiking and biking trails, canoe trails and launch, picnic pavilions, and plenty of opportunity for nature watching.
4. A popular destination in the area is Falling Creek Falls, a 204-acre park graced with beautiful roaring waterfalls and tranquil surrounding woodlands. Take to the elevated boardwalk or follow the winding walking trails to explore all that Falling Creek Falls has to offer. Consider bringing a lunch to enjoy at the picnic pavilions and don’t forget your camera to snap photos of the wildlife and stunning foliage.
5. In a secluded retreat off the Suwannee River, experienced divers will find Wes Skiles Peacock Springs State Park, a world-famous spot for cave diving that attracts visitors from all across the globe. With over 33,000 feet of underwater passages to explore, it’s one the longest underwater cave systems in the continental U.S. Proof of scuba certification is required to enter the caverns, but above ground, there is an interpretive nature trail that follows the cave system below your feet. The award-winning trail showcases four major plant communities and educates hikers along the way.
PLACES TO STAY
1. A downtown landmark and central hub of hospitality for over 100 years, the Blanche is a 14-room historic boutique hotel that also houses retail, office, co-working, and event space as well as two dozen one and two-bedroom apartments. Built in 1902 by architect Frank Pierce Milburn, this was once the most luxurious place to stay in town. Commonly referred to as “the pride of Lake City,” the Blanche has hosted plenty of famous guests, from Johnny Cash to Al Capone when they passed through the “gateway to Florida” on their travels. Today, visitors can stay in the same posh accommodations while they explore Columbia County. With no front desk and easy online check-in, this hotel is perfect for visitors looking to get in and out with ease.
2. For those seeking elevated outdoor adventure, you’ll be sure to find it amidst the rustic elegance at Moonshine Acres RV Park in Columbia County. There are currently six pristine glamping tents at Moonshine Acres, complete with full electrical capabilities, making camping in Florida a breeze (which you won’t need since these have air conditioning and electrical outlets!) In addition to the glamping tents, Moonshine Acres offers 13 pull-through RV sites and 28 back-in sites, which are pet-friendly. The property was once owned by a prominent local moonshiner and his spirit of discovery is kept alive across the park today. With a log cabin clubhouse and an old-fashioned general store on the property, you’ll feel transported back in time while still enjoying the conveniences of modern luxury.
LOCAL PLACES TO EAT AND DRINK
1. Halpatter Brewing, Lake City’s first craft brewery, offers a variety of specialty craft brews. With an outside second-floor deck, a beer garden with a cozy fire, massive TVs for watching games at the outdoor bar, and a spacious indoor bar and seating area, there’s plenty of room and options for you to enjoy a drink at this must-visit spot.
2. Another popular local spot in downtown Lake City is Marion Street Bistro and Brewhouse. Locally inspired and fiercely independent, this gastro-pub and outdoor eatery features a rich history and delectable cuisine. Open for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Saturday, you’ll find a wide variety of options, from daily house-made preservative-free deli lunch meats to farm-raised elk chops from New Zealand. Marion Street also features live entertainment Wednesday through Saturday and offers craft beers and cocktails at their casual chic bar.
3. Visit Xapa Coffee & Bakery for a cozy atmosphere, delicious pastries, and freshly brewed and locally sourced coffee. Here, everything is made from scratch and is infused with distinct Florida flavors. Xapa is more than just a coffee shop, it’s a concept born out of the dreams of two passionate friends, and a place where the community can gather and connect over an exceptional cup of coffee and a delightful baked good.
4. A favorite among locals and visitors alike is Brittany’s Cupcake Shoppe, located in downtown Lake City, FL. If you are a fan of sweet treats then this charming family-owned business is a must-visit, with a variety of decadent cupcakes sure to satisfy everyone’s distinct taste.
